Now What?

Now What?

In the strangest of ways, I felt so relieved by the words, “We should part ways.” I felt the tension in my shoulders fall, and my breath got deeper. After roughly 10 years of working at an ad agency, we parted ways on Thursday, March 17th, 2022.

So, now what?

As I arrived home, after talking to my wife on the drive, I checked my email and found an email that read:

— Client

It was a message from a past client asking if I was available for some freelance. I jumped on the work and began planning the next day. It’s funny how things work sometimes, the Universe decides to give you some work the day you lose your job, and the light turns red as a semi-truck barrels through the intersection in front of you. Sometimes you don’t even need to ask, “What happens now?” it just happens, now! And if you’re paying attention, you know what to do next.

The ask:

Take an existing clinical paper and make it into something more interesting, and give it some “pop” and “pizazz,” as they say. Working on projects like this would involve many people in the old days. A designer, programmer, animator, etc. In this case, Webflow was the perfect tool for me to take this on.

Making it “pop.”

After establishing the new chart styles and overall look that coincides with the existing look and feel, I began animating the charts and conveying the processes. Adding these with Lottie file exports was as simple as knowing the limitations, creating the files, and exporting using the Lottie plugin.

Using Webflow, you can set a staging site for client approvals and review. This is a super handy feature. As this site was not intended to use any of the built-in CMS features, the site was exported and packaged for deployment on the client’s server.
